Meet A Writer Monday Presents...

...Gerald Darnell

1. Tell me about your book, Dead End, and where you got your inspiration for it?

DEAD END is the name of my latest and soon to be released book. It will be the 13th book in my Carson Reno Mystery Series and, I believe, carries some of my core characters to a new level – some to their limit

2. Are the titles of your books important?

Yes, but not as important as the cover.

3. How much of your book is realistic?

Actually more than you might think. I use real places and ‘familiar’ characters to tell a story that is completely Fiction – almost. Some events from my novels are real and certain events that fit with the timeline are also real. All my Carson Reno novels are set in the early 1960’s.

4. What do you like to read in your free time?

Most everything. I’m retired now, but when I was an executive in the business world I travelled constantly. I would read while on airplanes and have boxes and boxes of books in my closet – all with airline boarding passes for book marks.

5. Do you have any suggestions to help someone become a better writer? If so, what are they?

Only one – ‘Don’t write to get rich, write to enrich others’

6. What are your thoughts on writing a book series?

Obviously I like series, because I write one. However, books sell books and I believe readers like to follow their favorite characters, just like their favourite writers.

7. What do you think of “trailers” for books?

Love them. I love creating them and I love seeing what others have created. You get to tell your lengthy story in just a few minutes of video. Very important.

8. If I came to your house for dinner, what would you prepare for me?

Something cooked on the outside grill – your choice.

9. If a two year old hands you a toy phone, do you answer it?

Every time – regardless of your age.

10. If you could chose to stay a certain age forever, what age would it be and why?

30 – a lot of good things happened then.

11. If you could bring someone famous back from the grave, who would it be?

Abraham Lincoln

12. If you could dis-invent one thing what would it be?

The cellphone – we all have them and believe there are necessary. I think we overdo it. I’ve had a cell phone since 1986, when they were mounted in your car and service was very sloppy. But today we depend on them too much – today’s children would not know what to do without one.

13. If you had to dispose of a dead body, how would you do it?

Interesting question and I’ve done it a few times in my novels. However, on the real world I would probably put the body on top of the highest mountain I could find – nobody ever goes there.
